Shortly after midnight the babies took their first step toward independence. "Thump" refers to the noise they make when they land outside or inside. It can be heard anywhere in the house so it's "Here come the babies," or "There go the babies."
I had opened the window earlier in the day and as I was preparing for bed Orangie was sitting right there. I knew he was sizing up the situation. Finally he decided that, if he did jump out, he would be able to jump back in. So out he jumped. THUMP! And just to validate his judgement, THUMP! right back in. Then out again for some serious exploration. Baby soon followed.
They played on the roof for an hour, then thumped back in and went to bed.
