Autumn, 2001

This spray booth was designed around a standard 20" x 20" furnace filter and one sheet of 3/8" particle board available at any hardware store across the United States. I had some scraps of aluminum plate lying around and the rest of the electrical was purchased at a computer/electronics surplus store near my neighborhood. The entire project came in at under US$50.00.

The filter is placed in front of a 4" deep plenum to distribute the airflow and to provide a place to house the electrical components. The joints are assembled with carpenter's glue, held in position with pipe clamps until dry. The exterior is finished with clear urethane varnish.

Afterthoughts:

  • I would move the electrical panel from the back to the side of the booth so it would be easier to reach while seated in front of the booth.
  • More lighting.
  • Possibly switch to a downdraft configuration.

Other than that, perfect!
